Appalachian Trail Backpack
Backpack the Appalachian Trail with Quest! Challenge yourself to a weekend of adventure. Explore the terrain of the AT while you smile and laugh with friends, set up camp, and share stories with new companions over a warm fire. Stacy Gever describes the AT as “A place in the U.S. where the autumn air is cold but the trees stand multi-colored, I sit and stare at the lake ahead and the quiet landscape beyond the backs of my new friends. Backpacking-PA Grand Canyon
Hike through the Grand Canyon in Pennsylvania’s backyard! The PA Grand Canyon! Leonard Harrison and Colton Point State Parks are on opposite sides of the Pine Creek Gorge, called the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. Many scenic vistas offer spectacular views into the 800-foot deep, glacially carved canyon. Learn more about the history of this canyon during a one dayhiking adventure.

Backpacking- Pinchot Trail
Lace up your hiking boots, grab a walking stick, and join Quest on the Pinchot Trail in Lackawanna State Forest. The Pinchot Trail is a 23 mile loop that Quest will be hiking over the weekend. This trail is conducive for both beginners and experienced backpackers. Discover the Pinchot Trial’s natural beauty along this trail as you pass through diverse forest types, scenic streams, wetlands, and an excellent vista from Big Pine Hill. Bike Maintenance
Join us as we tune our bikes for the spring! Bring your bike up and we’ll take a look at it. Great time to find a riding partner or learn more about mountain and road biking. Professional bike mechanic Nick Winterstein may also be back again!

Bouldering
Can you scurry up a rock as fast a squirrel? Join Quest for an afternoon of bouldering at Squirrel Rocks, located near the town of Lee. Climbs range from easy to extremely difficult. Beginners and advanced climbers can climb side by side on theses beautiful sandstone boulders. Quest will pick you up outside our office in front of Simon Hall on the Lower Campus. It is recommended that you go to the bouldering clinic.

Outdoor Bouldering Head to Squirrel rocks with Quest for a day of bouldering. Test your climbing skills as you scale boulders of all shapes and sizes. Participants will be challenged with the technical aspects of bouldering as well as the social. Camp on the Quad
Join Quest in its first Camp-out on the Quad! Spend a night sleeping outside, learning more about the great outdoors and meet other outdoor enthusiasts! Tents are provided!

Caving
Have you ever experienced true darkness? Come explore one of Pennsylvania’s unique geologic settings. During this program you will discover beautiful formations and unique environmental issues. See program prep form below for important items to bring with you on this program. Quest will pick you up outside our office in front of Simon Hall on the Lower Campus.

Caving
Come explore one of Pennsylvania’s unique geological settings. Upon descending underground, you will discover beautiful formations, unique environmental issues, and explore the different passages whether crawling through tight spaces or standing in 30ft ballrooms. We will also be teaching about caving ethics and the current information on White Nose Syndrome that is devastating the bat population.

Cross Country Skiing- Full Moon Campus
Have you ever skied in the moonlight? Take a break from your busy week and practice your cross country skiing techniques including the herringbone, snowplow, gliding and turning. No experience is necessary. Ski equipment provided. Meet at the Quest Equipment Room on Upper Campus at 9pm. Contact us for questions on what to bring and wear.

Cross Country Ski Tour- Crystal Lake
Have you ever woke up and found 3 inches of fresh snow outside your tent? Come learn how to winter camp in Mapleton Church, PA. Learn how to use a snow fluke to anchor your tent, heating methods and snow cave construction. The way you dress will be most important during this thrilling winter camping trip. Be sure to wear breathable, waterproof and insulating layers. We will be winter camping near a local cross country ski resort. After a blissful evening under the winter sky, we will warm up by cross country skiing at Crystal Lake Ski center. The facilities of the Ski center include an unusual natural setting of 960 acres of mountain woodlands at elevations from 1550 to 2100 feet, several lakes and ponds. We will return to Bloomsburg late in the afternoon on Sunday.
Quest has basic cross country skis, boots, and poles. There is a limited amount of equipment in various sizes, reserve a spot today.
Crystal Lake Ski Center has more of a selection of skiing equipment available for rent for $15 dollars.

Cross Country Skiing
Weather permitting, Quest will be venturing out into the snow for a day of cross country skiing. Join us as we discuss and try out some technical cross country skiing maneuvers and spend the day gliding through the beautiful winter landscape. Culinary Hike

Are you sick and tired of boring GORP! Learn how to cook gourmet meals in the backcountry with a professional chef, Laura Bickhart. Learn healthy tips on cooking tasty treats and meals for hiking and other outdoor voyages. More information about this trip will be posted soon.

Danville Anchor Training
Take a trip to Danville with Quest to learn about climbing equipment, how to set up anchors for top rope climbing and learn belay techniques. Along with the technical aspects of climbing experience the enjoyment of being outdoors, laughing and climbing with old friends and establishing new relationships.

Eco-Quest

Are you ready for afun and challenging day of paddling, running, and mountain biking? Will your 3 person team be this year's winner, or will you dominate in our Ironman (solo)division? Check out our website for more information or call our office for details. Eco-Quest is part of a larger race series known as the "River Town Race Series". This series takes the cumulative scores of multiple races in our region and awards big cash prizes to the winners.

High Ropes Adventure
Come challenge yourself up in the trees on the Quest High Adventure course. You will be harnessed up and traversing through the multi element static course.

High Adventure Training
If you are interested in being trained in the trees than come check out the high ropes course on upper campus. We will teach you how to transfer participants from one element of the course to the next 30ft to 80ft in the air! No previous experience necessary. Human Powered Winter Fest
This year, Quest will be hosting its third annual Human Powered Winter Festival. This day is full of information on different winter activities such as ice climbing, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, dog sledding, winter camping, avalanche beacons, and much more. We normally have a couple different vendors at this event showing off their new gear and explaining what their company is all about. Throughout the day, different clinics will be held to teach some interesting skills and techniques that will keep you happy and safe in your winter outdoor pursuits. In addition to all of this, there will also be a winter 5K race held. More information on this aspect of the day will be posted shortly.

Ice Climb- Ricketts Glen
Break out the crampons and ice axes! Take the opportunity to experience climbing like you never have before. We will travel to Ricketts Glen State Park for a day of top-roped ice climbing on frozen waterfalls. Quest will provide all technical equipment. This course is geared toward both beginners and novice skill levels. Contact us for questions of what to bring and wear.

Intro to Whitewater Kayaking
Join Quest on the Susquehanna to get an intro to whitewater kayaking! We will teach you some beginner level skills for white water on the Susquehanna. A fun day to learn new skills or practice skills you already know! Get out and enjoy the warmer weather with new friends, sign up today!

Kayaking
On this trip we will take advantage of the waterways right here in the area using Fishing Creek or the Nescopeck Creek to learn how to safely paddle either a canoe or kayak. You will learn basic paddling strokes, braces, ferrying, and safety on both still and moving water.

Learn the basics of kayaking in a nice warm pool!Quest staff will teach you how to wet exit, proper paddling technique, and how to roll. If you already know how to roll you can work on perfecting it, help others learn, or learn how to stern squirt and bow stall!


Mountain Biking
Sick and tired of dodging cars and trucks while biking? Come along with Quest and ride the trails of Roaring Creek. Learn the basics of mountain biking techniques through the challenging single track paths and fire roads. Bring plenty of water and energy bars for this lactic acid pumping ride. Bring your own bike (BYOB) and meet at Roaring Creek on Rt. 54, south of Danville PA. Ask for directions if you need them.

Mt. Washington
This 6,288-foot peak in the White Mountains of New Hampshire is the highest in the Northeast and will be a challenging climb in the winter.We will attempt to summit using crampons and ice axes and then possibly travel down with sleds.Join us on our very popular annual trip. Join Quest as we return to New Hampshire's Mount Washington, the northeastern United State's Highest Peak and home of the highest recorded wind speed on the Earth.Last year the Quest group tackled the artic challenges that a 6,288 ft. vertical mountain issued and summited successfully.We are again taking advantage of the Martin Luther King holiday to allow the group to attempt summitting Mt. Washington this winter.The trip will meet at the Quest Office at Bloomsburg University on Friday, January 18th and will return on Monday the 21st.Space is limited so sign up with your deposit to reserve your spot.


Mt. Washington
Lee Herbert, Quest Senior Staff, leads a trip to Mt. Washington on Martin Luther King weekend. Start off spring 2011 semester on a high by taking the hiking adventure of a life time. Challenge yourself by putting trust in your hiking companions. Together you will brave temperatures of the negative degrees, battle against hurricane wind speeds, all in the effort to reach a common goal, to look upon the world below you and say “I did it!”

Night Hike
Join Quest for a fun night of hiking. We will be exploring some of thebeautiful wooded areas around Bloomsburg and possibly stopping for fireside stories and a snack. It is sure to be a great time to meet new people and get outdoors.

Open Climbing Wall
Need to let loose and have some fun?! Join Quest at the rock wall from 3-6pm to do some climbing. Come with a group or come alone, either way we want to see you there for an exciting afternoon of climbing!

Recreational Tree climbing
When was the last time you climbed a tree? Was that tree 50 feet tall? Tree climbing is not only an adventure, but it’s also a great workout. Come hang out with Quest in the trees for an afternoon and learn about tree surfing, scooching, arboriculture, tree work, and forestry. Tree climbing is for people of all ages, not just kids!Meet outside of the Quest Office in Simon Hall.

1st ever Quest Reunion (9:00 am - 12:00 pm) will be held at the upper campus climbing wall.Any past Quest staff or participants are welcomed to the climbing wall on upper campus to reunite with old alum and meet our new alum involved with Quest.Come see what Quest is currently doing and how it has grown over the years. Bagels, fruit, and coffee will be provided!
RSVP: Please let us know if you can or cannot attend the reunion. If you cannot make it to the reunion, we'd appreciate if you'd send us some information on what you are currently up to.

Climbing Wall and Family Olympics: (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm) All alum are welcome to climb on the upper campus climbing wall.Also come take a tour of our high ropes course as well as our new wheel chair accessible high ropes course.Family Olympic events will be taking place all afternoon.Come by anytime to participate in the Olympic activities or to climb the climbing wall

Ricketts Glen Winter Hike
Come and check out the beautiful ice formations that make Ricketts Glen such an amazing place to be over the cold months. If trails are icy or snow covered, participants will get the opportunity to use crampons/snowshoes as they enjoy one of PA most beautiful outdoor areas.


Ricketts Glen Ice Climb
Join Quest as we venture out to Ricketts Glen for some of the best ice climbing in the state. Come climb waterfalls with Quest! Experience falls in the winter. No longer a flowing body of water but rather a solid wall of ice! This ice adventure is sure to be a great trip and will educate participants on the use of crampons and ice axes. Ricketts Glen Day Hike
Take a hike at Ricketts Glen with Quest! April can be one of the best times to enjoy the falls. The snow melt tends to create roaring waterfalls while the extra moisture on the ground makes everything glisten on a sunny day! So come and take a break and enjoy the fresh air with other outdoor adventures.


Rock climbing
Rock Climbing is a sport that will exercise your mind and body as you search for the best route up a steep rock face. Experienced staff will teach you all you need to know to stay safe while rock climbing outdoors at one of our local climbing areas.

Rock Climbing
As the weather begins to warm up, it is time to get outside and onto some rocks. Participate in some beginner tointermediate level climbing. Even if you just come to watch and not climb, rock climbing is a very coolactivity to observe. So head out to the rocks with Quest and enjoy the warmer weatherin good company!

Rock Leadership Course-
NY
Road Trip!! Destination: New Paltz, New York. Quest will be going to a climbing area known as Peterskill. This will be a program you don’t want to miss. This leadership weekend is for experienced climbers only. Learn the proper way to lead a sport route or traditional route. Topics include climbing gear and rope management, the art of clipping gear, and practice placing "trad" gear. Participants will also get to place gear while climbing on top-rope. Stay tuned for more information about this awesome opportunity to tug on some New York rock.

Smith Rocks
Quest is making its travel plans for Smith Rocks, Oregon this spring break! From March 5th to the 12th, we will fly into Portland, OR and drive through the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, ending at our destination of Smith Rocks. Smith Rocks is home to over 1800 sport and traditional routes. The variety of climbs are sure to satisfy any climbers hunger for the start of the next climbing season. From the exciting Tuff to the smooth Basalt columns you can find the appropriatechallengefrom beginner to expert. Quest trips are more than just a climbing trip. We make severalscenic stops to learn and explore the landscape of Oregon. This trip welcomes all who want to see the remarkable landscape of Oregon, climb top-ropes of all levels, learn basic to advanced levels of climbing and have a great time with fun people.

Snowshoe Trip

Join us in the winter wonderland of NE Pennsylvania as we explore, by snowshoe, what this area has to offer. Learn the basics of snowshoeing and get a chance to go on a nice winter stroll in the beautiful snow covered wilderness. This course will be heading out with or without snow. It is always nice to see the winter wonderland no matter the mode of transportation. No experience is necessary.
Snowshoes and poles will be provided.

Teambuilding training

Are you having troubles running a meeting, classroom, or a group of people? This course is the first step in becoming a teambuilding facilitator with Quest. Learn the theory behind the activities presented to the groups we work with. This is a valuable training for any leader wanting to gain an understanding of how a group develops and how you can most effectively steer this development. These skills have a wide range of applications and could even lead to you being a paid facilitator for one of Quest’s contracts with local educational programs or corporation.This course will meet at our Equipment Room on Upper Campus.

Team Building Level I Training
Team-building training is designed to develop stronger more supportive teams capable of dealing with challenging situations and difficult decision making. Team-building training makes participants more confident of their role in the group and how they can be most effective in contributing to team performance. Make sure you are at this free training to learn how to facilitate team building initiatives and activities!

Team Building Training II
16 hours of training (Above Level 1) – 8 hours are spent in preparation for and running a teambuilding group. Another 8 hours will be spent in debrief of their experience as the facilitator and what they need for development from there.

Valentines Day Night Hike
Celebrate Valentines Day with Quest! Take a walk under the stars with people you love or would love to get to know! A hike through the woods /fields is a greatway to end this special day!

Whitewater Rafting
Join us for a day of fun paddling along the upper gorge of the Lehigh River! Class I-III rapids will keep you in suspense to see what is up around the bend. Spend the day learning whitewater fundamentals, teamwork, and playing on the water. Cost includes equipment, instruction, and transportation.


Wild WV Week
Rock Climbing! Via Ferratta! Don’t miss out on this exciting trip! This adventure packed five day trip will take place in Pendelton County, West Virginia, home of Seneca Rocks and one of only three U.S. Via Ferrattas! Be prepared for the range of activities. We will be camping under the stars in a local camp ground that has a beautiful view of Seneca Rocks. If you are interested, please contact us, space is limited.

Wilderness First Aid

The WMI of NOLS WFA/WFR Recertification program is an introductory level course designed to provide outdoor leaders, guides and rangers an introduction to First Aid and patient care in remote settings. Special topics include, but are not limited to: wound management and infection, realigning fractures and dislocations, improvised splinting techniques, patient monitoring and long-term management problems, plus up-to-date information on environmental emergencies. Emphasis is placed on principles of treatment and decision making, not the memorization of lists.

Upon successful completion of the course a two year WMI of NOLS Wilderness First Aid certification will be issued. All levels of training and experience are welcome. This course does not include CPR.
If you are a WFR using this course to re-certify you will have to take two exams during the course. You will need to pass a 50 question multiple choice test on the second afternoon. You must get at least a 70%. There is a practice test located on the WMI-NOLS website under the curriculum section. Also on the second afternoon you will complete a practical exam similar to the one you took at the end of your WFR course. The instructors of the course will give you more information on these exams during the course.

Winter Backpacking
Lace up your hiking boots, throw on your snowshoes, strap on your backpacks and join Quest as we venture out into the winter weather for a weekend backpack. Just because its cold outside doesn’t mean you have to stay inside. In fact, the extreme weather is all the more reason to be out enjoying all that nature has to offer. No Experience is necessary for this trip and it is open to everyone.

Winter Hike- Ricketts Glen
Ricketts Glen is a nearby state park that is home to 22 waterfalls (the highest of which is 94 feet), a 245-acre lake, and miles of hiking trails. Come out for a day hike with Quest to explore one of eastern Pennsylvania’s most unique natural features. We will be hiking the loop trail, exploring this year’s winter wonderland of snow and ice waterfalls. Remember to dress in warm layers! Contact us for questions on what to bring and wear.
