Hello, my name is Shauna Nacewicz with Wilderness Ventures in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Wilderness Ventures is a multi-environmental wilderness travel program for student ages 12-20 years old. We have been running outdoor adventure travel programs for young adults since 1973. 2010 marks our 38th summer in operation and we are still owned and operated by the founders of the program, Mike and Helen Cottingham.

We operate in some of the most amazingly beautiful wilderness areas throughout the western United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Central and South America, Europe and the South Pacific. We are looking for individuals with proven leadership skills, a desire to work with youth and a love for the environment and being outdoors to lead a co-ed group of teenagers on these adventure expeditions.

Our staff are responsible for the group and its' safety at all times during the expedition. Staff and students will travel together from one wilderness area and activity to the next throughout the Northern Rockies, Pacific Northwest, California, Alaska, Hawaii, and overseas. Trips range in length from 16 days to 6 weeks. Activities include backpacking, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, mountaineering, snow climbing, canoeing, sea and river kayaking, mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding, service projects, sailing, snorkeling, surfing and SCUBA diving. Our staff lead all activities with the exception of technical climbing and whitewater, SCUBA diving and surfing. In these activities we utilize professional instructors.

Group facilitation is very important in every trip we run! This is your opportunity to positively impact a group of teenagers in some of the most dramatic landscapes in the world while building a solid sense of community. Responsibilities include teaching outdoor skills, minimum impact camping, cultural history, environmental awareness and outdoor education.

We are interested in visiting schools with strong outdoor programs and outdoor clubs in an effort to provide information about summer employment and learn more about the outdoor opportunities at your school. As the Personnel Coordinator I would love to visit and send along an information packet! Is there a specific day that your club meets? Would you please provide a mailing address and contact name to which I may send the information packet? Please be in touch if you would like to set up a visit for your outing club and/or recreation class to learn more about employment opportunities with Wilderness Ventures. If interested in becoming a summer wilderness trip leader you may also download the application from our website, www.wildernessventures.com.

Hello from the shores of Lake George!

I’m getting I touch in regards to Trip Leader positions available at Camp Chingachgook for Summer 2009 which I thought people participating in you respective outing organization may be interested in looking into further. I’ve enclosed flyers with brief descriptions of various positions and would appreciate it you could relay the information either via a notice board or passing on the information to your members. Below is a brief overview of what we offer at Chingachgook but if you require more information I would be more than happy to pass that along;

§ Camp Chingachgook is located right on the crystal-clear waters of Lake George in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York (about 4 hours from NY City or Boston).
§ Our Adventure Trip Leaders work with coed groups of usually 10 teens and a co-leader for trips anywhere from 1 to 5 weeks long. The trips take place throughout New York, New England and neighboring states, and the Southwest. Offering a variety of activities from hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, and biking to whitewater rafting, kayaking, sailing, canoeing and more, each week offers something different.
§ Some of the activities are outfitted by local guides in the area so there is a nice mix of instructing, facilitating, working with the group dynamics, and just playing along with the group!
§ Trip Leaders are hired for their proven ability to lead others in the outdoors, must be a minimum age of 21, and hold current valid lifeguarding and wilderness first aid certifications (training can be provided). Visit our website at http://www.capitaldistrictymca.com/branches/chingachgook/teenadvtrip.htm.

Salary of $2000-2600, depending on experience and certifications for up to 10 weeks including training opportunities and room & board for the season. Positions begin as early as June 6, 2009 for staff needing certifications, end August 16 or 26, 2009, and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis closing March 31, 2009. To apply, contact Dan Poole, Adventue Co-ordinator, at dpoole@cdymca.org or 518-656-9462, ext 6646. Application materials can be found online at http://www.capitaldistrictymca.com/branches/chingachgook/downloads.htm.
